Spray Tan Preparation for Rain, Slush and the Metro

In Montreal, spray tan preparation includes thinking about what will touch your skin after the appointment.

A winter boot can press into the ankle. A coat cuff can rub the wrist. Damp pant hems, a snug waistband, or a crowded metro ride can add friction while the tan is still developing.

That means your prep starts before you choose what to wear out the door. Exfoliation, shaving, clean skin, loose clothing, your first shower, and even the weather all need to line up with the development instructions you are given.

This 48-hour plan follows that window from the day before your appointment through the first rinse and the next morning, with Montreal weather and real commuting habits in mind.

Your 48-Hour Spray Tan Preparation Plan

Our current instructions place the main prep the day before your appointment. The colour then develops over a recommended window that is set with your technician.

Timing What to plan Montreal detail
48 hours before Check the forecast and protect a clear development window after the appointment. Keep skin hydrated in the days leading up to the tan. Rain, wet snow, a workout, or a long trip across the city may be easier to move than the appointment itself.
24 hours before Exfoliate the body and complete shaving or waxing. Spend extra time on dry areas such as elbows, knees, ankles, feet, and callused skin. Winter layers can hide dry ankles and knees until the day of the tan. Include them even if they have been covered for months.
Appointment day Arrive with clean skin and without lotion, oil, deodorant, or makeup. Bring loose, dark clothing for afterward. Look at cuffs, waistbands, socks, and footwear before leaving home.
After the appointment Keep the technician’s development time clear of water and unnecessary friction. Metro stairs, slush, rain, snow boots, and a heavy coat can all change what feels practical.
First rinse Follow the rinse time your technician gives you. Our current service information uses an 8 to 12 hour development window and directs clients to rinse with water only at the first shower. Work backward from bedtime, your morning commute, or an early meeting before choosing the appointment time.
Day 1 Return to regular body care according to the aftercare you received, including ongoing moisturising. Plan the tan early enough that the first rinse is already behind you before an event, flight, long outdoor day, or hard workout.

A countdown is more useful when it follows the solution used at your appointment. If your technician gives you instructions that differ from a general guide, use theirs.

48 Hours Before Your Spray Tan, Check The Forecast

Forty-eight hours out is a planning window rather than an extra treatment step.

Open the forecast. Then look at the hours after your appointment. If heavy rain is expected, ask yourself whether you can get home without exposed skin getting wet or clothing becoming soaked against the body.

Winter needs the same kind of thinking. Tall boots may press around the ankle or calf, while fitted gloves and tight coat cuffs sit directly against areas that have just been sprayed.

Your usual wardrobe can work if the outfit gives the developing tan some room.

A useful exit outfit might mean loose dark trousers, a roomy top, an outer layer without tight cuffs, and footwear that does not grip the ankle more than necessary. The exact clothing guidance should still follow what your technician recommends.

The metro changes the plan too

The metro itself is dry, but getting there can involve snowbanks, wet sidewalks, stairs, a warm platform, and a crowded car.

If you tend to arrive overheated after a fast walk, leave more time than usual. A post-appointment sprint for the train is hard to reconcile with keeping sweat and friction low during development.

This is also a good time to move a workout, swim, massage, or other activity out of the development window.

24 Hours Before, Exfoliate Before Spray Tan

We currently ask clients to exfoliate and shave about 24 hours before the appointment.

Exfoliation should include the full area being sprayed, with extra attention to elbows, knees, ankles, feet, and rough or callused areas. These spots can behave differently from smoother skin during tanning.

If hair removal is part of your routine, complete shaving or waxing at this stage as well. Avoid squeezing it into the final hour before you leave.

We also advise keeping skin moisturised in the days leading up to the appointment. On appointment day, the instruction changes to clean, product-free skin.

That timing is easy to lose in winter. Dry legs may invite another layer of body cream on the morning of the appointment. Save that step for the aftercare window your technician gives you.

Appointment Day For A Spray Tan In Montreal

Your skin should arrive clean and free of lotion, oil, deodorant, and makeup.

That includes the products you use almost automatically. Body lotion after a shower, deodorant before leaving, face makeup for work, or an oil on dry shins can all be easy to forget.

If something is already on your skin, tell the technician. It is more useful for them to know what was applied than for you to guess whether it has completely worn off.

At the appointment, confirm your development time before getting dressed again. Our current guidance uses an 8 to 12 hour window, with timing discussed according to the tan and your schedule.

Build the first rinse into the booking time

An evening appointment can work well when the recommended rinse falls the next morning. A daytime appointment may fit better if you prefer to rinse before bed.

The clock should also account for the trip home. An 8 to 12 hour development window starts before you reach your front door.

If you have an early workout, a long commute, a dinner where fitted clothing is involved, or a swim already planned, tell the technician. That schedule may influence which appointment time feels realistic.

What To Wear After A Montreal Spray Tan

“Loose and dark” is useful advice. In Montreal, it needs a second pass.

A loose shirt with a tight coat over it is still pressure on the body. Wide trousers paired with tall fitted boots still put contact around the lower leg. A roomy outfit can also become damp if the hem drags through slush.

Before the appointment, get dressed and move around your home for a minute. Sit down. Bend your knees. Zip the coat. Put on the shoes you plan to wear.

Notice where fabric grips, rubs, or leaves a temporary mark.

For winter, the awkward zones tend to be ankles, calves, wrists, waist, and anywhere a coat closes snugly. On a rainy day, coverage from the weather is useful, while wet fabric sitting against freshly sprayed skin creates its own problem.

The goal is simple: get home with as little moisture and rubbing as your day reasonably allows.

First Shower After Spray Tan

Your first rinse belongs to the timing given at the appointment.

Our current protocol describes a development period of 8 to 12 hours and a first rinse with water only, without soap or body wash. The technician should confirm the timing that applies to the solution used for you.

Do not choose the earliest point in a range simply because it is convenient. Confirm the rinse time before leaving the appointment and set yourself a reminder if the timing lands late at night or early in the morning.

The phrase shower after spray tan sounds like one simple step. In practice, the useful detail is knowing which shower is the first rinse and what your technician wants you to use during it.

If you have to wash your hair, exercise, or leave early for work, bring that up when the rinse time is set.

Day 1 After Your Spray Tan

By Day 1, the hardest scheduling is usually behind you.

We advise ongoing moisturising as part of aftercare and note that long baths, chlorinated pools, strong exfoliation, and oil-based body products can shorten how long visible colour lasts.

After the development period and first rinse, return to activities according to the aftercare you received. Chlorinated pools and long water exposure may shorten how long the colour remains visible.

For a special event, we currently recommend booking at least 24 hours beforehand. That gives you room for the development period and first rinse before you are getting dressed for the event itself.

Montreal weather can still affect comfort the next day, especially in winter when skin tends to feel drier. Follow the moisturising guidance you received without adding a new product solely because you have a tan.

Spray Tan Before And After, What Changes

The most useful spray tan before and after comparison is the routine around the appointment.

Before After
Moisturise in the days leading up to the appointment. Follow the technician’s aftercare and resume moisturising as directed.
Exfoliate and complete hair removal about 24 hours ahead. Leave exfoliation out while you want to preserve the colour.
Arrive clean and product-free. Keep the development window free of unnecessary moisture and friction.
Choose loose, dark clothing with the trip home in mind. Take the first rinse at the time you were given and use water only for that rinse under our current protocol.

A good plan removes the last-minute decisions. You should already know when you are exfoliating, what you are wearing home, and when that first rinse fits.

FAQs

Should I exfoliate before spray tan appointments?

Yes, under our current protocol. Exfoliate about 24 hours beforehand and include elbows, knees, ankles, feet, and rough areas.

Can I moisturise before my spray tan?

We advise moisturising in the days leading up to the appointment, then arriving product-free on appointment day. Skip lotion, oils, deodorant, and makeup before the service unless your technician has given you different instructions.

What should I wear home from a spray tan Montreal appointment?

Choose loose, dark clothing and consider every layer you will wear. In winter, check whether boots, socks, coat cuffs, or a waistband press firmly against the skin. In rain, plan enough coverage to keep exposed skin dry without relying on tight clothing.

How long should I wait to shower after spray tan?

Our current service information gives an 8 to 12 hour development window. Your technician should tell you the time that applies to your appointment.

Can I take the metro after a spray tan?

Yes, though the route to and from the metro deserves some planning. Allow enough time that you are not rushing and sweating. During rain or snow, think about wet hems, outerwear, footwear, and any clothing that presses against the developing tan.

Can I exercise after my appointment?

Keep exercise outside the development window recommended by your technician. If a workout is difficult to move, mention it when booking so the appointment and rinse time can be planned around your schedule.

What if it rains after my spray tan?

Protect the developing tan from water as much as reasonably possible and head home without adding unnecessary stops.

How far ahead of an event should I book?

We currently recommend booking at least 24 hours before an event. That leaves space for the recommended development period and first rinse.

Plan The 48 Hours, Then Leave The Tan Alone

Good spray tan preparation is mostly timing.

Exfoliate the day before. Arrive with clean, product-free skin. Know what you are wearing home and when the first rinse is due. In Montreal, add the forecast and the route home to the same plan.

If you want to check the location, hours, or current services before choosing an appointment time, you can find them on our Griffintown centre page.
